Oh, yeah! I forgot about that! I think I even have my blue gross grain ribbon, still. I just didn't remember what it had been used for! Thanks for the memory!

If you forgot to wear the white shirt you were sent home to change. That would never fly in today's world. In most cases no one would be home to let the child in!

I didn't remember that! Today, it wouldn't fly, not only because there's nobody home to receive the children, but also because there's hardly any discipline of that kind, in schools, anymore. They're too busy with the other kind of discipline: making sure the kids don't bring scissors or, worse, guns, into school!

Wow I remember both of these things. I think the teacher who was pushing for pants was Mrs. Silverman? Does that sound right?

I was class of 1959, and I remember once when I was in kindergarten, on a very cold winter day, my mother dressed me in what I remember as being very nice red plaid woolen pants and a matching sweater; she felt it was too cold for a skirt. She was CALLED IN TO SCHOOL and told to bring a dress for me to change into. Times have changed!
I remember also when the phrase "under God" was first inserted into the Pledge. My family was very upset; they were not at all against religion, but felt that the vitally important concept of separation of church and state was being undermined. It is an ongoing controversy, I think.
