Hello, everyone. Just wanted to mention that today is the birthday of one of the best and most beloved teachers from PS164-Florence Bromberg. How do I remember that from the 1950's? I guess the same way that I remember almost every word of the documents that Mr. Karow insisted we memorize. A great school, great principal, and great teachers! We were truly lucky kids!
Happy New Year!

I remember Mrs Bromberg well. I was in South Pacific. Those were fun times - and yes, I remember all those documents Dr. Karow made us memorize too. I hated standing up in front and reciting. It's funny - I remember every teacher I had at that school for every grade!
You were great in South Pacific, Ron - I still remember you singing "There is nothing like a dame". You had a big voice, not a kid's voice, just right for the song. It was memorable!
I loved Mrs. Bromberg! They don't make teachers like her anymore!
Me too, though I was even more partial to her best buddy, Mrs. Rosenberg. I was lucky enough to have Mrs. Bromberg two years in a row, for 5th and 6th grades. Not sure she felt the same. My voice was so bad, I never made the Glee Club. And after I was stupid enough to lick the microphone before one of the perforrnances, almost sending me (and her) into shock, she kicked me off the stage crew, too. I remember her saying to Mrs. Berman (who taught us French) that me and Peter Salgo were the worst under-achievers in her class, relative to what we were capable of. I took it as a complement... ;-)
I went on to teach at UMass, Peter became a doctor who I saw once on a TV newscast, reporting on medicine. So we both must have picked up more than we let on. She really was a good teacher.
Mrs Bromberg was the best, the best! I was fortunate to have her in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades. Too bad this relationship didn't continue...I came to think that all teachers were like her! Glad I chanced on this, even tho it's 4 years late. A privilege to tip the hat to a great teacher. Thanks, Mrs Bromberg.
