About Me:: Debra Kuppersmith, My brother is Joel Kuppersmith, We lived on 78th Avenue until 1965, when we moved to Roslyn, New York. My 3 very best friends were Lisa Watstein, Barbara Golan and Sharon Mitchell. We all played with the "boys: Michael Birnbaum and Sandy Stern. Our direct next door neigbors were the Fishers; the kids were Cary and Richard. Down the way were the Calins. The kids were Dennis, Patricia and there was one other. Their mother was Pat. I clearly remember on one Yom Kippor, my mother saw Pat walking and opened our window and asked her to turn on the gas on the stove because were were not allowed to do it. My grandparents, Eddie and Irene Schanbel, also lived in Kew Garden Hills for many years and as family lore has it, he and Jack Garfunkel (Art's father) were two of the founding members of the Jewish Center of Kew Garden Hills.

How are you? I've seen your postings with Ronni Birnbaum and wanted to say hello. As you probably know I've seen Joel several times through mutual friends (small world). I don't think that I am going to be coming up for the reunion. Almost no one from my years is coming - if I lived locally I would, but I don't think I'm going to make the trip. But I do plan to come to New York over the summer, so maybe we could all get together then. I have so many fond memories of our lives then. My stepmother (#2) is still living on Park Drive East. She is in one of the apartments on the street - my parents moved there after I left home. After my mom died in 1983 my dad remarried and his wife moved in, then she died and wife #3 is now there. He passed away about 5 years ago. I still have so many fond memories of your mother - she was so beautiful. I can even remember the dress that she wore to Joel's bar mitzvah - it was champagne in color. How's that for a memory. I can't remember what I did yesterday though. I would love to hear from you. Tell Joel I said hi.

Sorry to disappoint you but my parents are Frank and Cynthia Koppelman. They are still very active in the JCKGH though, which is now almost non existent. The only other Koppelman I knew from Kew Gardens Hills was Susan Koppelman. I don't know her parents names and have no idea whatever happened to her.
