Hi Ron-- Thanks for writing back and sharing more memories! This is really fun as when I read these I remember them too and they trigger some more. I remember field trips to NYC museums and on my last trip to the city, I had an afternoon free and treated myself to a visit to the Museum of Natural History -- it was fabulous -- some things having changed greatly likely the exhibit of gemstones, but others looking exactly as I remembered them, particularly the exhibits with animals in their natural habitats. I remember not only the documents, but "O Captain, My Captain" and do you remember the lists of proverbs? I remember the driest peanut butter sandwiches in the lunchroom and never wanting to have to have another one, but I fondly remember lunch occasionally in the candy store on Vleigh Place with cokes for a nickel and great hamburgers and french fries -- and egg creams! There were Saturday matinees at the Main Street and Parsons theatres when popcorn was 10 cents -- that makes me feel old! Do you remember the Vleigh Place Library behind the bank? I used to take out the Madeline book, return it and wait for it to go back on the shelf so I could take it out again. Do you get back to NY much? Do you still have family there? Best-- Janet

Hi Ronald-- I remember you -- and I live not too far from you. My husband and I moved to Maryland in the late 70's. You have a beautiful family. We have two married sons and we are grandparents to a little girl and a little boy. I do education research now and my husband is at the Department of Energy. Like you I remember the documents and have fond memories of cheering for the then Brooklyn Dodgers. I loved the Friday afternoon clubs and remember the Glee Club and Stamp Club (Mr. Edelson) best of all. What fun to have this vehicle to get back in touch after all these years! I remember you very well, Ronald, and I too was very much influenced by Mr. Karo. I didn't realize until many years later what an unusual educator he was.When President Obama quotes Lincoln, I am right there with the full text; when my daughter needed an historical piece for a school literary project, I recited Patrick Henry's speech from the Virginia House of Burgesses to her! I couldn't believe I still remembered it, but there it was! Hope you are doing well.
