There was only one teacher that could ever stick in my heart till this day----Belle Simon. I remember having the chicken-pox (didn't we all), and missing many days of school. Mrs. Simon came over that Friday afternoon with "get well" cards, and a stuffed animal from my class...If I did not remember to thank you, please let me say to you classmates, THANK YOU!!! Then, it was Christmas/Hannukah celebration, and who came to play "his" guitar for the class??????? W--R--O--N--G!!!!!! not Paul, but Eddie Simon. He was so nice. However, Paul did come to the school with a friends of his...UMMMMMM Artie Garfunkel, just to say Hi!!!! So DEAR, Belle Simon will always be my favorite teacher, and she DID make a difference...

I don't remember my kindergarden teacher but I do remember the rest. Mrs. Rivil (sp?) 1st , Mrs. Feldman 2nd, Mrs.Sondike 3rd, Mrs. Goldblatt 4th, Mrs. Hoffman 5th, and Mrs. Farkas 6th. All were good but Mrs. Hoffman was my favorite. I feared Mrs. Goldbaltt the most.

Neal, I remember your name. We were in some of the same classes (grades 1, 4, and 6 --- maybe others). You're right --- we were all afraid of Mrs. Goldblatt.

I didn't have Mrs. Kass but she stood out from most of the other teachers who were quite a bit older. Mrs. Kass had her students put on the best plays. While the rest of the classes would put on plays such as the The King and I , I still remember Mrs. Kass doing a play of pop music with the kids basically doing karioke, especially of the Jackson 5 records. The Jackson 5 were huge at the time.

Miss Addonizio (3rd grade) and Mrs Rothbird (6th grade).were by two favorites. I had a crush on Mrs Addonizio (lhad her again in 5th grade after she became Mrs Feehan). Both were extremely nice and were excellent teachers. I remember doing big research projects in both 5th and 6th grades on subjects such as drugs and pollution.

For me it was Mrs. Simms, my first grade teacher.
I remember I used to go to the play ground a lot after dropping off my bag at home. I would play alone by the the sandbox or swings and would see Mrs. Simms walking home (she lived up on 76th Ave.). She would always wave or wink. I looked forward to seeing her every time I was there.
I hated her one day for giving me a slip to bring home for my parents to sign (could this be the Unsafe Behavior Slip that everyone is talking about?). The girl sitting in front of me turned around to talk to me, so I told her not to do that when Mrs. Simms saw me talking. That day, I remember very well, when she waved at me at the park I deliberately looked the other way.
Does anyone know what happened to Mrs. Simms?

Mrs Simon was a great teacher, yes. I had her in first grade and have wonderful memories. I think the teacher that had the most impact on me though was Mrs Sondike, I was lucky to have her for my third grade teacher as well as my sixth grade teacher. She was very strict, but very fair. We had penmanship lessons every day ...I won many penmanship awards on auditorium day. I am fortunate to have a very nice handwriting (many people have commented on it) so I am reminded of Mrs Sondike often. Just thought I would share this.

I have 2 favorites----Belle Simon was my 1 grade teacher and one of my memories of her was teaching class in my friend Lisa Wartur's basement while the teachers were on strike. She felt 1 grade was so important that it is should not be disrupted by a strike.... I also remember watching Paul on t.v. in the teachers lounge throw out the 1 pitch for a Yankee game. I will never forget her or my 5 and 6 grade teacher Ms. Crusco.... she took a small group of us to the Bowne house (after school hours), she would sometimes dress up to teach us a special lesson or wear a wig to get our attention. She knew how to reach each one of us. She invited the whole class to her wedding ceremony and I felt so honored to be there. I remember thinking i had never seen anything so pretty as her dressed in her wedding gown walking down the isle. I also remember that she brought her younger sister on a couple of class trips..

Absolutely the best teacher I ever had was Mrs. Farkas. Every Friday afternoon, she brought in her guitar and snacks and we just sat around and sang.

I am a professional journalist and I still apply grammar and usage principals I learned from Her. Amazing!
