You took great pictures yourself too!
When did you take the pictures of the neighborhood?
I got there around 10:30am on the day of the reunion and slowly walked around 2 hours or so. A lot of Orthodox people walking too. I must have been the only non-Orthodox walking around that morning. I was thinking of going past the Park Drive East playground closer to the lake but decided against it (in other words, chickened out because I was all by myself). Wish I took more pictures...
"tushie" is spelled with a "U" (realize you are only 1/2 jewish...haha). when we drove near that "smell" our family used to say "rotten eggs!" i have pictures from Adventures Inn late 50's/early 60's. i like how all the men watching their kids on rides in those days wore dress pants even to Adventures Inn. vickie reminding me of the 'rotten-egg' smell was the 2nd best memory i've gotten from the 164 site, the best was from a classmate 6 years older remembering my father's 1952 MG parked on the street. her father liked it but was too conservative to drive anything but a 4-door Oldsmobile sedan. anyway, some people like stuff from the olden days, some not so much. a few of my best friends whom i could have shared about 100 stories with barely saiid "hey how are you doing" - no interest in reminiscing...others went as far as talking about what make and model of car their father drove but liking ours more...
Yes, I think it is Dan.
I was just looking at some of the photos of the reunion and saw his photo and his name on of them. Thank you!
Yumiko
glad you liked my Park Drive East photo. i love the pic of you and Vickie you posted. Yumiko (asian woman from California who i've been emaling for a year) said she spoke with you briefly at the reunion. did you speak with Rick Hendra with whom i also have been in contact? i have many other photos from the olden days and hope to post at some point. Vickie reminded me of something i never would have forgotten forever - the "rotten egg" smell on the Van Wyck as you got closer to the middle of Flushing.
Down the street, on my side of the block, there was Lanny Gilbert. He was a friend of mine. One year younger. His younger sister was Ivi. Further down was Ruben Perlmutter. His younger sister was Janet. On your side of the block was Lenny Markowitz. If you remember, he used to do tuneups on cars as a hobby. Charged a very low fee. He was the "bachelor" on the block. On your side, but closer to Main St. was Steven Gabay. And the first house at the corner of Main and 72nd was the Lums. 2 kids. Kenny Lum...a grade behind us, and his younger sister Gloria. He used to mix up chemicals with his chemistry set and made his sister drink them...lol. Also, across from you...do you remember Mr. Charlie Hoff? He always was putting new sod on his lawn. They called him the " mayor of 72 Ave." Used to be a famous photographer for the Daily News and Look Magazine. He actually took the famous photo of the Hindenburg zeppelin that blew up .
